Colt DCS Delivers 350kW for New Customer at London West

London West, 06 May 2022

At Colt DCS, our customers are at the heart of everything we do.

With the vision to be the industry’s most customer centric data centre provider, we endeavour to take a customer lead approach across the design, build, and operational management of all our hyperscale data centres - striving to serve our customers with a seamless experience no matter what facility or region they are in.

This vision has recently been demonstrated by successfully delivering a tailored hyperscale solution for a new customer at our London West data centre.

Understanding the customers’ requirements

We were approached to deliver a 1MW IT critical requirement (with the option to purchase an additional 800kW) for a global SaaS customer to be ready for Q3 2022. There was another, immediate requirement for 350kW by Q1 2022.

The challenge

Upon initial review of the customer’s immediate requirement, a number of challenges were identified with building and delivering the 350kW data hall within the specified timeframe. Drawing upon Colt DCS’s in-house experts and resources, and our team or Consultants we created a bespoke solution that would exceed our customer’s expectations.

Putting the customers first

With a ‘can do attitude’, we underwent a fast-paced design and construction programme to get the Data Hall fully operational on time and on budget. This was achieved by:

  • Appointing a first-class delivery company; CTS International. Both COLT DCS and CTS International took swift action to get the relevant checks, paperwork and procedures in place prior to undertaking any work in our existing live DC.
  • Assigning COLT’s internal commissioning team and our commissioning agent; Operational Intelligence, who were chosen as our partner to deliver the level 4, level 5 and Integrated System Test (IST) for Colt DCS to ensure reliability and quality for our customer.
  • Undertaking the stage 4 Data Hall design work for the project in-house, which was then issued to the CTS to be developed into stage 5 construction drawings, ready for build.
  • Managing the entire project from start to finish jointly with global independent construction, property and management consultancy firm, Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB).

The success of this project was very much due to the London West Data Centre team and our partners implementing the core values of Colt DCS. These include demonstrating agility, collaboration, stepping up to challenges, adding value and adopting a customer centric approach.

‘‘ We supported our customer, who in turn supported us throughout the planning, design and building phases of this project. A true relationship is a two-way street and the success of this project is as a result of the collaboration from all parties involved, which allowed our new customer to receive what they needed on time and within budget.”
