09 Aug 2022

Like many of its European neighbours, France is experiencing a digital boom. The fast penetration of the internet and use of smart phone technology has influenced consumer behavior across a number of industries. In particular, financial services where the demand for digital payment services is soaring and therefore driving providers to seek data centre capacity that offers the ability to scale up with demand.

In addition, the development of the eight and most influential emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), blockchain, drones, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, 3D printing and virtual reality (VR) is also driving the French data centre market.

By 2026, the French data centre market is expected to grow by 3.39%. And with the emergence of stricter regulations concerning data protection, and the processing and transmission of data from the likes of The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Authority, greater investment in data centres across the country is expected.

Corporate Innovation

France has a number of data centre markets offering a sufficient supply of facilities to support the surge in growing IT infrastructural needs. However, the Paris metropolitan area which includes the city of Paris and its surrounding suburbs, remain the country’s top market for data centres.

Innovation remains at the heart of the city, drawn from data heavy sectors including fintech, aeronautics & defense, audio & media, fashion & luxury, as well as health tech to name a few. In more recent years, Paris has also gained a name as becoming a global tech hub for startups and scaleups to support innovation and entrepreneurship . Now home to more than 8,000 start-ups, the city also hosts the world’s largest startup campus, Station F

With an appetite for scalable data centre solutions from global hyperscalers to start up businesses projecting to significantly grow their IT infrastructure in the coming years, the Paris metropolitan area data centre market is thriving and shows no signs of slowing down.

To support Paris’s rapidly growing technology community, Colt DCS is rapidly expanding its hyperscale data centre presence in the city’s metropolitan area.

“We’ve seen the demand for scalable data centre requirements in Paris grow at a phenomenal rate in the last few years. Particularly due to organisation of all sizes becoming even more dependent on the cloud. As a result, hyperscale data centres are more important than ever as they allow customers to scale on demand, offering a flexible long term solution’’
